This customer, Pak Budi, is from an industrial park in Indonesia. His company is a pig iron smelting, casting and machinery manufacturing enterprise, mainly producing pig iron for steel making and pig iron for casting. They had previously used different brands of lifting equipment, but due to long-term use, the equipment was aging badly, the failure rate was increasing, and it was difficult to find repair parts. This affected the efficiency of their pig iron handling and the normal operation of the furnace shop.
Pak Budi contacted us through one of our customers in Indonesia, who had purchased our grab gantry cranes for coal unloading. Pak Budi told us that they were planning a new expansion of their furnace warehouse and pig iron yard, and that they needed to replace an old and frequently used crane, and add a larger tonnage machine for handling heavy pig iron lumps and ladle slag. On the recommendation of a friend, he contacted us for a suitable lifting solution for them.

In order to accurately understand the customer's lifting requirements, we communicated with Pak Budi through video conferencing on some key parameters, and communicated with the customer in detail on the difficulties in the operation process, and finally determined the following lifting requirements.
| Category of challenges | Detailed Description |
|---|---|
| Big and irregular weight of pig iron blocks | The individual pig iron blocks handled by the customer are light in weight, but the customer usually needs to lift several blocks at a time. |
| Long Continuous Operation Time | The charge shop runs at high intensity every day, requiring more than a few hours of continuous operation. This requires the crane to have a working class of at least A6. |
| Extremely High Dust Concentration | There is a large amount of iron ore dust, coke dust and pig iron chips in the pig iron handling area, and the conductive dust is very easy to get into the motor, resistor and control cabinet, resulting in a short circuit or burnt contactor. In addition, the dust is very abrasive to the wire ropes and gears. |
| High Temperature Environment | The warehouse is adjacent to the blast furnace iron output yard, and the ambient temperature is high all year round. Crane main girders and electrical equipment must be resistant to high-temperature radiation or the insulation will age several times faster. |
In response to these challenges, we have introduced a number of designs to address our customers' needs and lifting challenges.
In order to provide a more stable structure and stronger crane beams, we have re-optimized the main and end girder connections to reduce the overall height of the crane. In addition, the crane's trolley structure has a linear layout of motors, gearboxes, reels, etc., which also reduces deadweight.
All the electrical cabinets of the crane are centrally installed in the enclosed electrical room with high protection level to prevent dust and powder from entering. The control cables are made of flexible cables that are resistant to high temperature, oil and corrosion.
➢Multi-layer composite heat-insulating layer is laid at the bottom of the main girder, which is measured to reduce the temperature of the lower flange of the main girder in order to prevent thermal deformation and fatigue cracking of the steel structure.
➢The wire rope is selected as galvanized, anti-rotation, high-temperature type and coated with high-temperature resistant grease. The reels and pulleys are made of wear-resistant ductile iron with hardened groove surfaces.
➢The brake is dustproof type, using high quality high temperature resistant materials.
The crane's trolley and trolley running mechanism adopts frequency conversion speed regulation and encoder feedback, which can realize smooth braking and reduce the impact on the rail. The main lift is equipped with double brakes and an overspeed switch is added to prevent heavy loads from falling due to brake failure.
We provide wireless remote control and cab dual control mode, use the remote control when walking long distances in pig iron yard, and enter the cab to operate when frequently gripping and stacking, with better vision. The cab glass is made of high-temperature resistant tempered glass, with heat-insulating steel plate at the bottom, and equipped with industrial-grade air-conditioning (not ordinary household air-conditioning) to ensure that the operators can work normally in the high-temperature environment.
The following table shows the key parameters of the 50-ton overhead crane that we eventually supplied for the project:
| Parameter items | Value/Description |
|---|---|
| Model | QD Double Girder Ocerhead Crane |
| Rated lifting capacity | 50 tons (main hook) |
| Span | 22.5m |
| Lifting height | 12 meters (headroom under hook) |
| Working Class | A6 |
| Operation | Cab (with air conditioning) + industrial wireless remote control |
| Applicable ambient temperature | -10°C to +55°C (design margin to +65°C) |
Four months after the crane was commissioned, we contacted Pak Budi again to ask if there had been any problems with the crane. He said that everything is running well and our cranes are much more efficient than before. No malfunctions have occurred in four months of operation.
Crane is not the all of our job.The most suitable solution is our passion. With every project we undertake, we set the bar high and provide the best solution for the clients and industries.
