A customer from Nigeria, their company is engaged in the production and sales of high-strength pipe, its products are widely used in municipal water supply, agricultural irrigation and oil and gas pipeline projects. According to the customer, as a result of the plant's growing order book in recent years, they acquired an old adjacent building and converted it into a storage and repair shop for large pipe molds. However, the biggest problem with this building was the lack of roof height and the inability of the structure to support the rail beam loads required for a conventional top-suspended traveler.
The customer first contacted us through the website and in his message he wrote:
"We had an old factory building that was very low in height, but needed to lift about 10 tons of pipe molds and raw materials. Please let me know if there is a crane that can be hung under the existing beams, rather than the kind that sits on top of them."
After many communications and exchanges with the customer, we understand that the customer mainly has the following lifting needs:
UNDERHANG BRIDGE CRANE PARTS
UNDER-RUNNING OVERHEAD CRANE BEAMS
UNDERHANG OVERHEAD CRANE DELIVERY| Projects | Customer pre-existing conditions / needs |
|---|---|
| Maximum lifting weight | Approximately 9.5 tons |
| Available height of plant | Only 4.2 meters below the track to the ground |
| Plant Span | 9.6 meters |
| Lifting height requirements | At least 3.2 meters (molds need to be lifted to a 1.2 meter high maintenance platform) |
| Environmental Characteristics | High Temperature, Dust |
| Power supply conditions | Three-phase 380V / 50Hz |
| Operation Preferences | Floor operated handle + radio remote control, workers want to stand in a safe area to operate |
The customer had previously contacted us about the low height of the plant and that they needed cranes that hung under the beams. Therefore, after careful communication with the client, we identified the following main challenges in the client's operating environment.
The client's plant was originally a light steel shed. We asked the client for information on the type and spacing of the roof steel beams, and our engineers assessed the loads on the beams. The structure of the workshop was calculated to be insufficient to safely support the wheel pressure when the crane was in operation. To solve this problem, we can add a set of H-beams underneath the original roof I-beams to spread the wheel pressure of the crane end beams. This option has minimal modifications to the plant.
The client company does not have professional installation and maintenance personnel for the time being, and their budget is limited, they do not want us to send installation engineers to the site to install. In order to facilitate the installation of customers, we pre-assembly and no-load commissioning of the crane before delivery, the main beam, end beam and hoist trolley and other components of the modular packaging, and a detailed installation step-by-step diagram is included with the box. In addition, we remotely guide our customers through the installation via video conferencing.
After many rounds of email communication and video conferencing, we finalized the following lifting plan:
| Parameters | Value / Configuration |
|---|---|
| Crane Model | Type LX underslung overhead travelling crane |
| Rated lifting capacity | 10 tons |
| Span | 9.6 meters |
| Lifting height | 3.5 meters |
| Job level | A4 |
| Lifting mechanism | 10-ton electric wire rope hoist, two-speed lifting |
| Power supply method | Safety Slip Lines |
| Operation | Floor Handle+Wireless Remote Control |
| Contrasting items | Underhung | Top-running |
|---|---|---|
| Orbital Position | End beams suspended from the lower flange of the track | End beam traveling on track surface |
| Plant Height Requirements | Lower (can be as low as 4 meters headroom) | Higher (usually ≥ 6 m) |
| Impact on roof structure | Wheel pressure directly on the original purlin, need to assess the load bearing | Often requires independent rail bearing beams or bull legs |
| Maximum tonnage | 1-10 tons | 1 ton - hundreds of tons |
| Applicable Scenarios | Remodeling of old factory buildings, low-rise workshops, temporary cranes | Building of new standard factory buildings and heavy-duty workshops |
A: 10 tons is a common upper limit for standard LX models. However, we can increase the safety factor up to 1.5 times (i.e. 15 tons in static load test) through the reinforced main beam and four-wheeled end beam design. As long as the track beam is sufficiently loaded, the 10-ton underslung crane is completely safe and reliable. If your tonnage exceeds 10 tons, we recommend considering a double girder lower suspension or switching to an upper suspension option.
A: The standard design is for indoor use (ambient temperature -20~40℃). If outdoor use is required, add a rain cover, corrosion-resistant coating, wind-resistant anchors, and a waterproof electrical box. Please clearly inform the outdoor use requirements before placing an order.
