5 Ton Overhead Crane for Thailand Automobile Factory

The customer in this project is from Thailand, they are an automotive parts supplier, specializing in engine blocks, gearbox housings and chassis components for automotive manufacturers. In recent years, their factory has continued to expand with the growth of their business, and they wanted to purchase a safe, stable, and space-utilizing lifting solution for use in their expanded workshop.

Lifting Requirements

The specific needs of the client are as follows:

• ➢Lifting capacity: The maximum workpiece weight is nearly 5 tons, so the rated lifting capacity is required to be 5 tons with sufficient safety margin.

• ➢Span: The span of the crane needs to be 24 meters to achieve full coverage of the workshop width direction.

• ➢Lifting height: The workpiece needs to be lifted from the ground material frame to the 2.5m high machining center table, and at the same time, it should be able to cross over the workers' operation area and the equipment guardrail, and the lifting height is finally determined to be 6.5m.

• ➢Working level: The lifting frequency of this station is about 15-20 times/hour, which is a medium frequent operation, so the working level is required to be A5.

Environmental conditions in the workshop

Before providing the design solution, we understand the situation and application requirements of the customer's workshop as follows:

1. Constrained workshop height

The customer's workshop was established earlier, when the demand for the workshop was limited, so the workshop was not built with excessive headroom in mind, which resulted in a low height under the eaves of the workshop of approximately 7.2 meters. To ensure that the hook effective lifting height of 6.5 m under the premise of a reasonable arrangement of double girder, trolley and hoist, the crane structure needs to be optimized.

2. Synergy with automation equipment

The machining center is fully enclosed with chip removal ducts and coolant lines on top. Crane spreaders are required to complete workpiece loading and unloading in the narrow machine tool door area, requiring the left and right limit positions of the hook to be as close to the rail as possible, and the trolley to run smoothly with good micromotion to avoid collision with the machine tool guard.

3. High Humidity and Slightly Corrosive Environment

Thailand has a high humidity during the rainy season and the evaporation of cutting fluid in the workshop can be corrosive. Therefore, all exposed electrical components and wire ropes of the crane need to be moisture-proof and rust-proof.

4. Production cannot be interrupted for long periods of time

Customers cannot accept long periods of downtime for remodeling. Crane installation work should be completed as soon as possible mechanical and electrical installation and commissioning.
