50 Ton Overhead Cranes Sold to Pakistan

The customer is from Pakistan and they are from a local steel structure and piping manufacturer whose main products include large building steel girders, bridge constructions and heavy duty industrial piping. In recent years, benefiting from the rapid development of domestic infrastructure in Pakistan, they initiated the expansion of the new plant. It was therefore necessary to purchase cranes to support the steel production for the new plant. The customer required a crane with a lifting capacity of 50 tons for lifting heavy steel girders, pipe sections and molds. Cranes must be reliable and durable, and be able to maintain stable operation under prolonged and intense use.

Environmental and operational challenges faced

Heavy industrial workshops often bring a mix of heat, dust, and demanding lifting tasks. In this project, the working conditions were tough and required careful planning before selecting the right overhead crane.

1. High temperature and dusty environment

The workshop handles frequent welding, cutting, and grinding work, which creates a large amount of metal dust in the air. At the same time, summer temperatures can exceed 45°C, making the environment even harsher for equipment. Under these conditions, standard electrical components can quickly accumulate dust, which blocks cooling and affects performance. High heat also accelerates wear and increases the risk of electrical failure. If you are working in a similar environment, you need a crane designed with sealed electrical systems, effective cooling, and heat-resistant components to ensure stable operation and reduce maintenance downtime.

2. Precise positioning under reloading

The customer needed to lift and place 50-ton steel beams with high accuracy onto welding jigs and pipe setters. This type of work requires very fine control, especially during the final positioning stage. Traditional speed control methods often struggle to provide smooth and precise micro-movements, which can lead to alignment issues or rework. Our cranes can be equipped with a fine-tuning feature for extremely low, smooth operating speeds. This feature eliminates inertia-generated shocks for precise positioning and avoids equipment jerks or collisions.

3. Electricity volatility and energy pressure

The local power supply has a voltage fluctuation of around ±10%, and large equipment starting up can create sudden loads on the grid. This can impact crane stability and may shorten the lifespan of electrical components if not properly managed. At the same time, energy costs are an important concern for the customer, especially for equipment that runs daily. A crane without energy-saving features can lead to high operating expenses over time.

In response to the above challenges, our team of engineers recommended and customized a 50-ton QD-type European double girder overhead travelling crane with the following main configurations and features:

Challenge Targeted design
High temperature, dusty environment The whole vehicle adopts H-class insulated motor + IP55 protection level, and the electrical cabinet with positive pressure ventilation and filtration device to prevent dust intrusion.
Precise Positioning Lifting and sizing are controlled by frequency conversion + encoder closed-loop control, with electronic anti-swing and micro-speed function, the micro-movement precision can be up to ±2mm.
Voltage fluctuation and energy saving Wide voltage design (380V-420V self-adaptive), adopting energy feedback unit, which can feedback the braking energy back to the grid, with a comprehensive energy saving of about 20%.
After-sales and spare parts Establishment of a permanent service point in Lahore with 8-hour response and 48-hour presence; establishment of a safety stock of critical wearing parts (brakes, wire ropes, pulleys) in the customer's factory.

Other core strengths:

  • The main girder adopts arch design to offset the downward deflection deformation during heavy loads and ensure smooth operation.

  • Wire rope safety coefficient ≥ 6, the drum rope groove adopts double folding line design to prolong the life of wire rope.

  • All wheels are quenched+tempered, with surface hardness of HB 350-380 and 30% higher wear resistance.
