A customer from Saudi Arabia contacted us looking for bridge cranes. Based on the communication we learned that this customer is the head of equipment procurement for a local medium-sized construction company. They are undertaking a multi-story commercial complex project that requires frequent lifting of precast concrete slabs, steel beams, and heavy construction equipment. They are currently screening vendors in hopes of finding the most suitable lifting solution.

Lifting requirements

The client's site site is a steel building under construction and they require an overhead crane to be mounted on a load bearing beam approximately 12 meters high inside the building for:

  • ➢Hoisting of heavy prefabricated components (approximately 3-5 tons each) to the construction surface at different levels

  • ➢Assisting in the installation of large air-conditioning units and ventilation ducts

  • ➢Loading, unloading and transferring of construction materials such as steel, formwork, etc., at indoor sites

Challenges in the lifting environment

The local climate and construction site conditions in Saudi Arabia posed several special challenges, which we overcame in the design of the program and during transportation and installation:

1. High temperature and dusty environment

The summer temperature at the site often exceeds 45℃, and the air is filled with fine sand and dust. Ordinary electrical components are prone to overheating or short-circuiting. For this reason, we have specially selected higher grade of high temperature resistant motor and IP55 protection grade electric control box, and made anti-dust treatment for wire rope and lubricating grease, to ensure that the crane runs stably for a long time in the extreme environment.

2. The limited headroom of the plant made installation difficult

The top structure of the building was almost complete, and the space available for installing the track was very tight. Our European double beam design has low headroom characteristics, under the premise of 12 meters lifting height, effectively compressed the beam height and electrical space, and finally successfully adapted to the site reserved installation position, without changing the main structure of the building.

3. Precision Lifting and Safety Requirements

The site is characterized by frequent cross-over operations, with constant shuttling of workers and vehicles below. Customers demand the highest level of anti-sway and limit protection. We have integrated electronic anti-swing function and multiple limit switches in the crane, together with the micro-motion mode of the wireless remote control, which enables the operator to place 5-ton prefabricated panels in the designated position with centimeter-level precision, while avoiding the safety hazards caused by swinging of the lifted objects.
