5T HD Overhead Crane for Machinery Maintenance in Thailand

We first met this Thai customer through an industry trade show when they were purchasing high quality wheelsets, bearings and other crane accessories for customers in Malaysia, Indonesia and elsewhere. After that, after several rounds of technical communication and sample testing, we established a long-term relationship with our customer. Since 2015, we have supplied many batches of crane parts to this customer. In 2025, this customer contacted us to ask a question about 5 ton overhead cranes.

Challenges in the lifting environment

Before designing a crane program, we need to first consider the limitations of the working environment. This helps to provide a crane that best fits the use.

1. Plant space and carrying capacity constraints

According to the customer, the plant where the crane is installed can support crane operation, but the steel columns and roof beams in the workshop do not have a high load-bearing capacity. Therefore, the wheel pressure of the crane should not be too high. This is due to the fact that excessive wheel pressure can cause safety hazards to the structure of the plant, and even require additional reinforcement before the crane can be installed. In addition to this, some of the materials to be lifted may be large in size, and if higher lifting heights are to be achieved, we need to provide cranes and hoists with compact designs.

2. Irregular frequency of operations but complex working conditions

The frequency of operation in the application environment is variable, sometimes requiring frequent lifting over several consecutive days, sometimes only for occasional use. Therefore, the equipment should be able to withstand both high frequency use and remain stable during low frequency use. The objects to be lifted include a wide variety of parts, which are irregularly shaped and complex to lift, and which require a high degree of deflection capacity of the hoist and abrasion resistance of the wire ropes.

Our bridge crane solutions

Based on the requirements initially provided by the customer, we offered two crane designs.

1. LDP single girder overhead traveling crane

The first option we offer is the LDP low headroom bridge crane. Its main feature is the side-mounted wire rope hoist, which is located on the side of the main beam rather than directly underneath it, allowing the hook to reach a higher lifting position, thus making more efficient use of vertical space. The crane utilizes a welded box girder structure that provides strong support while keeping the overall weight light, helping to reduce the load on the building. It is usually equipped with an electric wire rope hoist of type CD or MD and can be controlled by two-speed or variable frequency control for smooth and precise operation.

2. HD Single Girder Overhead Crane

The second lifting solution we offer is the HD single girder overhead crane.

a. Lightweight design to reduce wheel pressure

The main girder of this crane is a box girder structure welded with high quality steel plates. This design has a lighter structure, with the overall deadweight of the machine reduced by approximately 20% compared to conventional cranes, thus reducing the pressure on the wheels and helping to protect the building structure.

b. Low headroom design to enhance effective lifting height

The main beam of this crane has been optimized to be lower for the same lifting capacity in the HD model than in the LD model. The crane is equipped with a wire rope hoist of the NR model. The compact design of the hoist itself and its closer fit to the main beam help to increase the lifting range of the hook.

c. End beams and travelling mechanisms

The end beams are designed with modular structure and use high quality wheels and motors to ensure stable operation along the track beams. The traveling system is driven by a variable frequency motor for smooth starting and stopping. This reduces vibration and component wear. The wheels are made of durable materials to withstand repeated use, and the overall design ensures that the load is evenly distributed across the track. This helps to extend the life of the crane and rail system.

Final Program

After communicating with the customer and carefully explaining the differences and advantages of the two solutions, the customer finally chose the second lifting solution, i.e. HD bridge crane. After communicating about the details of the matter, we immediately communicate with the factory for production. After the production is completed, we conduct relevant load tests in the factory and send the test data and video to the customer. Customers are very satisfied.
