The customer is a local integrated warehousing company in Hong Kong, mainly storing heavy steel, machinery and equipment and bulk palletized goods. They needed an overhead crane for material handling in an indoor warehouse with a rated lifting capacity of 10 tons.
Based on the characteristics of warehousing operations - medium lifting frequency, high requirements for space utilization, and the need for precise positioning to avoid cargo collision. Considering that the span of the customer's warehouse is about 16 meters, the lifting height requirement is 7 meters. We offer a double beam design option. In addition, the customer emphasized the need for low headroom to maximize the use of limited vertical space, as well as easy operation, low maintenance costs, and support for both ground remote control and cab control modes to flexibly respond to the loading and unloading of different sizes of cargo. In the end, after comprehensively considering the existing plant structure's carrying capacity, power supply conditions and budget, we customized a 10-ton double girder overhead travelling crane equipped with a wire rope hoist, which fully meets the continuous handling needs of its heavy-duty warehousing.
Considering the customer's large span and the customer's requirement for a rated lifting capacity of 10 tons. For large span applications, if a single girder design is used, the main girder requires a very large section height to resist the bending moments, resulting in an increase in overall machine headroom. In addition, when the lifting capacity reaches 10 tons, the main web of the single girder needs to be thickened considerably, resulting in the deadweight of the whole machine may instead exceed that of the double girder solution, and the vertical stiffness (resistance to downward deflection) of the single girder is relatively weak. The double girder adopts two box-type main beams, and the load is borne by both main beams and end beams, which significantly improves the flexural and torsional rigidity, and the deflection of the main beams when lifting 10 tons of heavy loads is much smaller, and the positioning is more accurate, which is especially suitable for frequent starting and stopping and micromovement alignment in the warehousing scenario.
Storage warehouses often have limited floor heights, and the client places special emphasis on maximizing vertical space utilization. The trolley (carrying the hoist) of a double girder overhead crane rides across the rails of the two main girders to operate, whereas the trolley of a single girder crane is usually suspended below the lower flange of the main girder. The double girder construction allows the wire rope hoist to be arranged closer to the top of the main girder, resulting in a higher effective lifting height for the same plant height. This is critical for stacking taller racks or for accessing large equipment.
We equip our cranes with NR wire rope hoists, which have a compact design. The trolley frame on the double girder provides a rigid connection platform for the hoist, allowing the hoist to be centered between the girders with smaller hook limit dimensions, thus reducing the lifting blind spot. The double beam structure is symmetrical in force and runs more smoothly.
Double-beam structure can put the wire rope electric hoist between the two beams, maintenance personnel can carry out maintenance (such as replacement of wire rope, reducer) on the walking platform, without removing the hoist. And single girder hoist repairs usually require overhead cradles or complete dismantling. In addition, the double girder has an interface for a second hoist or rotating spreader if this is required in the future.

The 10-ton crane with no girder had several unique features that set it apart from traditional double girder cranes. These features included:
The 10-ton double girder overhead traveling crane with no girder is an example of how innovative design can meet unique customer requirements. While traditional double girder cranes are still the norm in most industrial settings, there are situations where a single girder crane may be more appropriate. By working closely with customers and understanding their specific needs, crane manufacturers can develop solutions that meet their requirements while maintaining safety and reliability standards.
